The 2009 Olympic Day In Kyiv Has Passed Into History
After morning runs that were the most mass for the all years of the Olympic Day staging in Kyiv the baton was picked up by erudites, artists and pole vault athletes. About 10 erudites competed to be the best in the quiz "An Olympic Sport Connoisseur". The participants themselves said that they discovered many new and interesting things for themselves, so it is safe to say that the number of the Olympism connoisseurs have increased in Kyiv. Those who are talented for painting were also presented with the gifts for their painting “expression” of their feelings on the Olympic Day. But as promised by the organizers – the National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Ukraine For Family, Youth and Sport in close cooperation with the Ukrainian Athletics Federation – a real zest and a bright final chord of the festival was the “Pole Vaults In the Square” competition among the pole vault stars. The eight of the ten early entered pole vault athletes could take part in the competition. In his welcoming speech the president of the National Olympic Committee, a famous pole vaulter Serhii Bubka wished all participants first of all to overcome themselves and a result would not keep them waiting long.
But outdoor competitions have their specific – the weather conditions have an influence on a result. Wind did not help, but interfered in allocation of places and in the results demonstrated by the athletes. Thus Serhii Gorovyi became the winner of this year competition with the result of 5 m 20 sm. The second became Anton Loza who conquered the 5 meter height from the first attempt, and the same height but from the third attempt was conquered by Martin Shyngur who respectively took the third position. Prizes from the National Olympic Committee and the NIKE company were presented by the Olympic champion in athletics Natalia Dobrynska and the Olympic bronze medalists in diving Ganna Sorokina and in athletics Olena Govorova. The bright sports celebrations, which bystanders and participants were thousands of the capital inhabitants and guests, had come to the end but festive spirit for some more hours was kept up by the young talent during the concert program. Farewell to the 2009 Olympic Day! See you next 2010 Olympic Day!
