This decision was approved today by the ХХІІ General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee.
In his report the NOC President Mr. Sergey Bubka stressed that along with traditional NOC programmes which reached a higher level a number of new ones were implemented.
Projects and activities initiated by the National Olympic Committee were presented by the delegation of the NOC of Ukraine at IOC headquarters in Lausanne and got high estimation of the experts of the International Olympic Committee. Methods of activity of the NOC of Ukraine were acknowledged as effective model worth to be followed by the National Olympic Committees.
The priority in the NOC activity was given to the support of the Olympic movement entities. The NOC increased financial assistance to the Olympic Federations from 3,5 million to 5 million hryvnas; and assistance to the NOC regional divisions up to 1 million 200 thousand hryvnas. For the first time special funds were allocated in NOC budget for the financing of joint events held together with sport societies. From year to year the National Olympic Committee increases its support to higher educational establishments. The scholarships for the athletes and coaches constituted over 1,5 million hryvnas in 2008.
The year under review the NOC continued its systematic implementation of the Programme of the National Olympic Movement Development for 2005-2010. Olympic Day Run, Olympic Week, All-Ukrainian Olympic Lesson, All-Ukrainian Ceremony “Heroes of Sports Year”, awarding of the best athletes and coaches of the month, various contests, educational conferences and seminars, joint activities with the sponsors, memorial tournaments and mass sport events – this list of implemented projects is far from being completed.
Notwithstanding quite complicated state of affairs foreseen for the next year the NOC has planned to increase the financing of existing programmes in 2009. “Taking into account complications of the state financing at the beginning of the upcoming year the National Olympic Committee in co-operation with the Ministry on Family, Youth and Sport of Ukraine is managing issues on allocation funds for the training camps and participation of Ukrainian athletes in the international competitions so they never stop their training for Olympic starts. We count a lot that the state financing allocated for sport in the year 2009 will allow us fulfill all plans”, Mr. Bubka stressed.
“Ukrainian Government is unanimous in its attitude towards sport and support of the Olympic movement”, said Mr. Yuriy Pavlenko, the Minister of Ukraine on Family, Youth and Sport, who was elected the NOC Executive Board Member, “This attitude is fully supported by the President of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yushchenko”.
The General Assembly approved a number of decisions aimed at the solution of problematic matters and ensuring of worthy preparation of Ukrainian athletes to the events of the next Olympic Games.
