Olympic Lesson took place for the fourth time in Ukraine on 13 September 2008, the Day of Physical Culture and Sport.
The main festival in the capital was held in the Independence Square. Olympic Champion and bronze medal winner in freestyle wrestling Irini Merleni and Olympic Champion in artistic gymnastics Bogdan Makuts were the hosts of the celebration.
Among the honourable guests of the Olympic Lesson there were the Chairman of the Committee for Family, Youth, Sport and Tourism of the Ukrainian Parliament Mr. Pavlo Kostenko, Deputy Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport Mr. Rostyslav Drapushko, Chairman of the Committee on Physical Education and Sport of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Mr. Vyacheslav Gamov, Chef de Mission of the NOC of Ukraine at the Games of XXIX Olympiad Mrs. Nina Umanets, athletes and coaches.
The First Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine forwarded the greetings of the NOC of Ukraine President Mr. Sergey Bubka and called everybody to go in for sport and lead healthy lifestyle.
Mr. Volodymyr Brynzak declared the Olympic Lesson open and Khreshchatyk Street turned into one big sports ground. Over 20 sports were presented in the centre of the capital that day.
This sport festival started all over Ukraine. It will be followed by Olympic Week. Olympic champions and medal winners of the Olympic Games, World and European championships will visit schools and meet the pupils to involve them in the wonderful world of sport that helps to become strong, healthy and successful.
Olympic Lesson was traditionally organized by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry for Family, Youth and Sport of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
