Pole Vault Stars in the Independence Square

A real sport festivity, Olympic Day Run, took place today in the centre of Kyiv. Upon successful completion of the runs the baton was passed to the masters of pole vaulting.
The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, European Athletic Association, Ukrainian Athletics Federation, Sergey Bubka’s Sport Club presented to Kyivites and the guests of the capital unforgettable sport show – international tournament Pole Vault Stars in the Independence Square.
The President of the NOC of Ukraine, Olympic Champion, six-time World Champion and current world record holder Mr. Sergey Bubka, the Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport Mr. Yuriy Pavlenko, the Chairman of the Committee for Family, Youth, Sport and Tourism of Ukrainian Parliament Mr. Pavlo Kostenko, Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv State Administration Mr. Vitaliy Zhuravskyy opened the competition. Rodovid Bank and Furshet supermarkets provided their sponsorship support for the event holding.
13 athletes from Kuwait, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Sweden who are the world top athletes competed in the tournament.
In the course of tense struggle Maksym Mazuryk and Denys Yurchenko from Donetsk (Ukraine) took the first and second places respectively with the results 5.7m and 5.6m. The third place was shared by Oleksandr Korchmid (Ukraine) and Viktor Chistyakov (Russia) who reached 5.5m.
The most titled representative of the sport and the main inspirer of the tournament Sergey Bubka awarded the winners. He thanked all the athletes for their performance and wished them best of luck at the Olympic Games in Beijing. “I am sure that sport events in the Independence Square will become traditional as sport is inseparable of healthy lifestyle”, he stressed.
