Meeting of Dr Jacques Rogge and Mr. Viktor Yanukovych
The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yanukovych had a meeting with the President of the International Olympic Committee Dr Jacques Rogge, the President of the NOC of Ukraine Mr. Sergey Bubka and the Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sport Mr. Yuriy Pavlenko. They discussed the ways for the development of the international Olympic Movement, participation of Ukraine in this process, as well as training of Ukrainian athletes for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.
Dr Jacques Rogge expressed his gratitude to Mr. Viktor Yanukovych for his contribution in the field of sport in Ukraine as the President of the National Olympic Committee. “You achieved excellent results”, the IOC President said. Dr Rogge expressed his high appreciation of ratification of the International Convention Against Doping in Sport in Ukraine. “Ukraine is one of the first countries which ratified the Convention,” – he said.
On his part Mr. Viktor Yanukovych emphasized outstanding contribution of Dr Rogge to the development of the international Olympic Movement and thanked for the support the International Olympic Committee provided to the NOC of Ukraine.
Mr. Yanukovych stressed that the Olympic Movement in Ukraine is in reliable hands. “The President of the National Olympic Committee Mr. Sergey Bubka is worthy representative of the Olympic ideals in Ukraine. The NOC promotes these ideals. Besides, Mr. Bubka successfully acts as the NOC President, IOC Executive Board member and Chairman of the IOC Athletes’ Commission”.
The Prime Minister also informed that in 2007 more financing will be allocated by the state for the preparation of Ukrainian athletes for the Games of XXIX Olympiad in comparison to funds provided in 2004. Shortly Ukrainian Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Ukraine on Family, Youth and Sport and the NOC of Ukraine will approve the programme of preparation for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. Public and sponsors will be involved in this activity.
