Sergey Bubka and Jacques Rogge have opened the photo exhibition „Olympic Movements”

Today a press conference with participation of the IOC President Mr. Jacques Rogge, the NOC of Ukraine President Mr. Sergey Bubka and the IOC Member in Ukraine Mr. Valeriy Borzov took place in the Leonardo Business Center.
Sergey Bubka informed the journalists on the ceremony of honoring Jacques Rogge the title of Dr Honoris Causa of the National University of Ukraine on Physical Culture and Sports. Journalists were also informed on the meeting of Jacques Rogge with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, where Dr. Rogge was awarded with Yaroslav the Wise Order (III).
The NOC President informed the journalists that a day or two ago in Poltava region (Ukraine) a monument to General Oleksiy Butovskyi, one of the Olympic Movement founders, were erected. The representatives of Poltava sports movement expressed their gratitude to the IOC President Mr. Jacques Rogge for his support in erection of the monument and presented him with memorable souvenirs.
Valeriy Borzov stated that Ukraine has a rather active Olympic and Paralympic Movements. “Olympic Movement acts as unified body for public and political figures of Ukraine. Olympic Movement also has an important social mission”, Valeriy Borzov said.
Addressing to journalist Jacques Rogge said, “I came to Ukraine having been invited by Sergey Bubka. I am pleased to sit alongside the two legends of sport – the fastest runner and the highest jumper. IOC highly appreciates the National Olympic Movement of Ukraine. You have famous champions. And your scientific and organizational potential is at the highest level,” – the IOC President said. Mr. Jacques Rogge underlined that the government of Ukraine was one of the first that signed the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sport.
Answering the question concerning the meeting with the President of Ukraine Mr.Jacques Rogge said, “I respect Viktor Yushchenko very much. He is a person who added his chapter to the history of our continent and the world in general. We had an interesting talk. We discussed, in particularly, a role of sport in society, a place Ukraine takes in the world sports”.
In reply to the question “What is your vision of the Olympic Games of the future?” Mr.Jacques Rogge said, “My dream is to make athletes the main figures in the Games organizational process. Moreover, athletes should compete in the peaceful world and without doping” After the press conference there was the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition “Olympic Movements” organized by the NOC of Ukraine in commemoration of the Ukrainian athletes’ participation in the Games.
At the ceremony Sergey Bubka underlined, “The most interesting Olympic moments of the period of Ukraine independence are presented at this exhibition. We propose you to remember the decisive movements of our athletes’ sports fight that were watched with bated breath by the whole world; to remember victories and failures, happiness and despair, smiles and tears, ascents and regrets. We present you Ukrainian Olympic sport in all its variety”. Sergey Bubka thanked very much photographers Mykhailo Chernichkin and Mykola Bochok for their photos as well as the NOC of Ukraine sponsors – the companies “UMC”, “Kodac” and “Halcyon HQ” for their help in the exhibition stage.
At the ceremony Sergey Bubka presented a photo to Mr.Jacques Rogge in memory of his visit to Ukraine and the photo exhibition. Mr. Jacques Rogge said, “ For decades your athletes have shone on the international sporting stage. What better examples than the current President of the NOC and his predecessor – Sergey Bubka and Valeriy Borzov. Through some significant and unforgettable photos visitors will discover the endeavours of Ukrainian Olympians and learn about all that they have achieved since their first Olympic appearance as an independent country. Sport is emotion in action. Sports images share this power. I trust that each of you will enjoy visiting this photo exhibition which will provide, with passion and accuracy, a permanent record of some exceptional achievements, powerful emotions and unforgettable memories.
This is a wonderful gift to Ukraine’s past and future Olympians”.
The photo exhibition will be open from 3 till 13 October in the Leonardo Business Centre (17/52-A, Bogdana Khmelnytskyy str., 2nd floor). The exhibition presents significant photos from the Games of 1994 Lillehammer till 2006 Torino Games.
